ABOUT UTR RATING

About the UTR Rating

1. Partnership Agreement

UTR, the highly respected tennis rating system in the United States (Japan representative: BearDown Inc.), has entered into a partnership with Pickleball Japan (PJ), a general incorporated foundation.

2. Launch of the UTR Pickleball Tour in Japan (from 2025)

As UTR has fully entered the U.S. pickleball market and achieved rapid growth, the “UTR Pickleball Tour” will also launch in Japan starting in 2025.

3. What Makes the UTR Rating Unique

UTR uses a proprietary algorithm to objectively evaluate a player’s skill level on a scale of 0 to 16. Through the ratings calculated from match results, tour participants can compare their level with players from around the world.

4. Benefits and Future Outlook

The greatest advantage is being able to quantify your skill level by a global standard without leaving Japan. In tennis, UTR is already a key metric for recommendations and admissions to U.S. universities, and collegiate pickleball leagues have already been established in the United States as well. Going forward, this will also open doors for Japanese players to study abroad and enter U.S. universities through pickleball.

In addition, for recreational players, it is also expected to become an important criterion for eligibility in overseas tournaments and for earning a “USAP Golden Ticket.”
